Mandatory e-Prescribing in Nebraska

Legislature Bill 583 signed by signed by Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts mandates that all controlled substance prescriptions be prescribed electronically in an effort to combat opioid abuse. The bill requires that pharmacists and prescribers (other than a veterinarian) will be required to check the patient’s PMP history before dispensing or prescribing opioids, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, or carisoprodol and prescriptions have to be submitted electronically.

Nebraska Controlled Substances Prescription Monitoring:

Nebraska does not currently offer an integration with their Controlled Substances PMP. Through an integration, prescribers can go directly to the patient's PMP report without having to log in to the PMP and search for the patient.
